Downhill Racing Champs

What cars are the fastest?

I often get asked which are the fastest cars. There are many variables such as brand of track, track length, as well as the design of the ramp. I also suspect that temperature and humidity can play a factor.

The standard track that we bring to birthday parties is 4' tall, 10' of incline, 20' of straightaway, 30' total length..

Our largest track that we set up for special events is 7 1/2' tall, 25' of incline, 29' of straightaway, 54' total length.

The track that we brought for Mythbusters was 1,320' long, all sloped. (grin).

The track that is often used at the California Hot Wheels Conventions is about 6' tall, 30' of slope, 10' of straightaway, 40' total length.

The track used by the SoCalOriginals is 5' tall, 36' of slope, 12' of straight, 44' total length.

With so many different variables, therewill never be the same car winning on all tracks, all of the time.

Here are some models that always show up for competition.

Redline category (1968-1973 models w/redline tires)
Noodlehead, S'cool Bus, Jet Threat, Sidekick, Tri-baby

Basic category (1973 to present - images borrowed from eBay)
Please note that these are specific releases. You need to acquire these exact cars if you want to compete. Other variations, versions, repaints or releases may not yield the best results.

Chevy Stocker #618 (1997) aka Huffman Stocker
Fat Fendered Ford '40 # 607 (1997)
Both of the above castings were made in China and have 5spoke wheels. Who knows why they are so much faster than other releases but these are the only release that will get you into the final brackets of your races.

Beginning in 2005, Mattel started releasing models branded "Faster Than Ever". These cars have nickel plated axles which perform more consistantly than their regularly-wheeled counterparts. In order to tell if you have the FTE version, the package should state "Faster Than Ever" and/or the model should have copper colored Open 5 spoke wheels like the following releases.
2005 Pin Hedz Way2Fast (Faster Than Ever)
2005 FE Speed Bump (Faster Than Ever)
2005 FE 2005 Ford Mustang GT (Faster Than Ever)
2005 White Head 16 Angels (FTE)

Regarding the FTE's, the Speed Bump is very fast but
it may not stay on the track. The Ford Mustang took
3rd for the kids division at the 2005 Irvine Conv. The
Way2Fast wins on the SoCalOriginal's track. You never
know which model will win on any given track on any
given day.

Have fun!
