The Great Race

In the summer of 2000, Ron "HWKidd" had a cool idea for a 50 state "Great Race". A '67 Camaro competed against a '70 Ford Mustang. Each car was sent to a collector who would in turn, send it to a collector in another state. The object was to see which car would complete the 50 states the fasted as well as rack up the most miles. I hosted the '67 Camaro. From my house in East Los Angeles, I coordinated the next three states. I shipped it to CinnyBee in Hawaii, who shipped it to back to a southern state, who shipped it to Bob (Ranugad) in Alaska. What a tremendous journey!

While the concept of the competition was great, the reality was that it takes a long time to do 50 states! After about fifteen months, the race was called. The Camaro had only seven states to go while the Ford had eighteen left! The Camaro also had a huge lead in mileage as well.

While the Camaro was visiting East Los Angeles, I decided to take some pics. The elementary webpage, one of the first that I ever made, is shared below.

The Camaro from the GREAT RACE has landed in East Los Angeles!

Uh, oh... It seems that the Camaro has attracted some attention...

The Camaro remembers what happened the last time he visited the barrio...

Gee... You don't suppose... . . . . .NAH !

Since the Camaro wants to get back home with the fellas...

He had better hurry on to his next destination.
It would be a sin for you not to consider this last picture a big hint as to where he's heading next!
